Dave Campbell's Texas Football is pleased to announce the launch of "Dave Campbell's Guide to Texas College Football," a limited-edition book that offers an unparalleled look into the tradition and pageantry of Texas college football.

Authored by senior writer Mike Craven, edited by digital director William Wilkerson and published in partnership with Texas Monthly Studio, this book is an essential addition to any sports library, providing in-depth analysis and an evocative narrative of the sport’s historical and contemporary significance.

Craven was in person to watch all 13 Texas FBS teams in 2023, including the Longhorns' last regular season conference game against Texas Tech, Texas State's thriller over ULM, Texas A&M's highly-anticipated contest with Alabama, and TCU's season opener against Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes.

"I wanted to write this book to capture a moment in time, when the college football landscape was as regionalized as it might ever be again," Craven said.

"Sure, the Southwest Conference died when I was 11 years old, but us Texans are raised with the notion that what happens here matters more than anywhere else. In that way, we are the Amer-ica of America. And Texas football might be the most obvious example of that hubris. We do high school football bigger and better than anyone else. Even outsiders know what Friday Night Lights mean. By 2025, Texas will be home to 50 college football programs — 13 of which play FBS."

This limited-edition release is an investment in the legacy of Texas football, featuring not just the history and achievements of its greatest figures, but also a celebration of the cultural impact of the sport in the Lone Star State. It’s an insightful resource that captures both the transformative moments and the enduring traditions of Texas college football.

"We’ll get Texas vs. Texas A&M back in 2024 and beyond, and that’ll be great. I’ll go to it. I’ll love it. I’ll write about it ad nauseam. But I’ll miss yesterday," Craven said. "I’ll miss the past. And maybe that’s a sign of me aging and the need to cling on to what was rather than embrace what is. But I didn’t fall in love with college football because the athletic departments made a billion dollars. I didn’t fall in love with college football because we crowned a champion after a tournament. I didn’t fall in love with college football be-cause it had the best time slots on Saturday or because we could also watch it on Wednesday night. I fell in love with college foot-ball because I got to pick a side. I got to love a team. I got to root on that team with and against my neighbors, family and friends."
