Pampa ISD has named Odessa Compass head coach and Pampa graduate Floyd White as its next head coach.

White replaces Cody Robinson, who resigned in March to become an assistant coach at Gilmer.

“It’s one of the things I always hoped I could do when I got into the profession and after all these years it’s just a blessing," White said. "I’m still awestruck."

White led Compass for two seasons and back-to-back 4-7 seasons with playoff appearances after the Cougars won just one game in both 2020 and 2021.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Odessa Compass, White was the defensive coordinator at Midland Lee. He’s spent time as a graduate assistant at Iowa State and as an assistant coach at Holmes Community College in Mississippi, Austin Anderson and Lubbock Monterey.

The new Pampa head coach hopes to hit the ground running when he gets on campus.

“As soon we get there we’ve got to see where we are at and get going with workouts because there’s not much time left in the school year," White said. "Of course we’ve got to get to know the kids and build those relationships. We want to restore Pampa football and Pampa athletics back among the elite in the Panhandle.”
