Bridgeport athletic director/head football coach J.D. Martinez announced his resignation on Friday after leading the Bulls for three seasons.

Martinez led Bridgeport to a 5-6 record and a playoff appearance in his first season at the helm and a 4-6 record in 2022. However, the Bulls struggled to a 1-9 mark in 2023.

Martinez, who spent 2016-2020 as the head coach at Sherman, has not announced his next move as of yet. Sources indicate he’d still like to remain coaching, but if the right opportunity does not present itself Martinez may decide to file retirement paperwork.

Bridgeport is expected to post the job opening in the next couple of business days. The district has reduced coaching positions, which will be a concern for potential applicants. The Bulls were aligned in February in District 3-4A Division II with Brock, Graham, Eagle Mountain, Burkburnett and Mineral Wells.
