North Forney head coach Eric Luster has been named the next head football coach as Brazoswood High School, Brazosport ISD announced on Thursday morning. He'll replace Joe Carey, who departed last month to take over the same position at Tomball Memorial.

Luster, a native of Crowell, has spent the past five seasons at North Forney, two as an assistant under Randy Jackson and the last three years as the head football coach of the Falcons. Heposted a 5-15 record in his first two seasons before leading North Forney to a 9-3 mark and a playoff victory in 2023.

Luster also spent three seasons as head coach at Corpus Christi West Oso from 2011-2013.

“It’s hard to leave Forney ISD," he said. "They’ve been so good to me. We have a lot of roots here and they let me be me and I’m forever grateful. If Forney ISD didn’t say yes to me in 2021, Brazosport ISD wouldn’t have said yes to me for this job. They gave me a chance after Coach Jackson retired."

Luster also has stops as an assistant coach at Garland, Wichita Falls Rider, North Garland, Tidehaven, Sweeny, Dallas White, Grapevine and Bells.

“My wife worked in Lake Jackson and we really liked the area when I was at Sweeny," he said. "I want this to be my last move and last job. We love the weather down there and to get back to the gulf is going to be great. I worked with athletic director Jay Zeller when I was at Grapevine, so we already had that connection. Then when I went to interview down there it just felt like such a great fit for me and my family. The administration made us feel 100 percent at home, just incredible support and I can’t wait to get started."
