Corpus Christi Flour Bluff named long-time assistant coach Clynt Elwood as its next athletic director and head football coach. News was first reported by Quinton Martinez of the Corpus Christi Caller Times.

The move comes as a surprise to no one with knowledge of the unique situation at Flour Bluff ISD. Previous AD/HFC Chris Steinbruck was named as the district’s interim superintendent in October. Steinbruck announced he’d finish the season as head football coach, but would give interim athletic director duties to Elwood for the remainder of the semester.

Elwood would retain that role after Christmas Break and Steinbruck was named the lone finalist to be the permanent superintendent for FBISD. From that point on it seemed Elwood being named the permanent AD/HFC was simply a formality that the district made official today.

Elwood has been an assistant at Flour Bluff the past fifteen years and he takes over one of South Texas’ premier programs as the Hornets have posted four straight seasons of double digit wins, including a 10-3 mark in 2023. Elwood is a graduate of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and coached at San Antonio Southwest for five seasons before coming to Flour Bluff in 2009. He’s spent the past ten seasons as the Hornets defensive coordinator.
