Humble Atascocita (8-0, 5-0) at Galena Park North Shore (8-0, 5-0): The showdown in Houston everyone has been waiting on nearly lost a bit of luster as Humble Atascocita needed overtime on Saturday night to slip past a feisty C.E. King squad, 28-21.

QB Zion Brown threw two touchdown passes, including the game winner in overtime, but it was Atascocita’s defense that led the way. The Eagles defense scored a touchdown and also saved the game with a fourth-and-goal stop from the 1-yard line in a tie game with just over two minutes left.

North Shore’s 38-24 win over Humble is a bit deceiving as the Mustangs led 38-0 early in the third quarter before emptying the bench in the second half. QB Kaleb Bailey had two touchdown passes and RB DeAndre Hardeman had a pair of touchdown runs in the victory.

North Shore has one of the state’s top groups of WR’s, but they could be even better if 4-star junior WR Deion DeBlanc can get back healthy for the Mustangs; he’s missed the past several games with an undisclosed injury.

One other thing North Shore has yet to do this year is really unleash junior QB Bailey as a runner. Is this the week HC Willie Gaston lets Bailey loose?

Both teams may have been caught looking ahead last week. They’ll both be locked in this week, but North Shore’s had Atascocita’s number, and the Mustangs are at home.
