Melissa 2024 SDE Nigel Smith (6'5, 250) committed to Oklahoma over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Penn State.

Smith announced his decision with a video broadcast during the pregame of Melissa's Friday night matchup versus Royse City in the Cardinals' brand new 35 million dollar Coach Kenny Deel Stadium.

The OU coaching staff did a great job of making Smith a priority.

"OU has a great defensive staff," Smith said. "(Brent) Venables, (Miguel) Chavis, (Todd) Bates -- all of them coming from Clemson, winning, and I'm the first guy they go after for D-line."

Smith is rated as the No. 12 prospect in the DCTF Rising Hot 100 and the No. 3 DE.

Smith collected 103 tackles, 17 TFLs, and 11 sacks to earn 7-5A Division II Defensive Lineman of the Year honors as a junior in 2022.
