Frisco Emerson 2024 QB Michael Hawkins (6'2, 185) committed to Oklahoma over TCU, Arkansas and Alabama offers.
"The culture up there, since Coach (Brent) Venables got up there, he has really changed it a lot," Hawkins said. "It is more of a family up there."
Hawkins has been in the "film room" with the OU coaches on recent visits, and he feels like the Jeff Lebby offensive scheme matches his skills.
"One thing I will say is that they gave me a rundown of how they do their offense and how they call it," Hawkins said. "Their system fits me."
Hawkins completed 148 of 264 passes for 2,007 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 400 yards and four scores to earn first-team all-district honors as a junior at Allen.
Hawkins is rated as a DCTF four-star prospect, checking in as the No. 19 prospect in the state.
He won QB MVP honors at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Showcase in Dallas in 2022 and 2023.
Scout's Take: Smooth is a good descriptive word for Hawkins' game, and he always plays under control. Calm and confident. He is a pass-first QB, but he is also a dual threat. He is dangerous when he pulls the ball down to run, flashing good straight-line speed. His mobility in the pocket and ability to stretch plays gives him a competitive advantage. Hawkins possesses good arm talent, a quick release, and showcases dependable accuracy on deep throws.
Hawkins will continue a family tradition at OU as his father, Michael Hawkins, played football for the Sooners.
