Hays Consolidated ISD named San Antonio Highlands head coach Chris Castillo as the next head football coach at long-struggling Kyle Lehman High School on Monday.

Castillo is no stranger to rebuilding jobs in his career as the Waco native took over a San Antonio Highlands program that had won just three games in the previous two seasons combined and he took them to the playoffs three straight seasons, including a share of the district title in 2021.

Castillo, who graduated from Waco University High School, is earned a bachelor’s from Texas A&M and a masters degree from Hardin-Simmons. He started his coaching journey at the college level as an assistant at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and he’s been an assistant at San Antonio Jay and Lytle and earned his first head coaching job at Dallas Sunset where he was head coach for three seasons from 2017-2019.

Castillo takes over a Lehman program that since opening in 2006 has only had one winning season and has never made the postseason.
