Rockport-Fulton head coach Jay Seibert will be named as the next athletic director/head football coach at Sweeny High School pending approval by the Sweeny ISD school board on Tuesday evening. Seibert will replace Clayton Odom, who resigned after two seasons to take an assistant coaching role in Katy ISD.

Seibert comes to Sweeny with a strong resume as a head coach with a dozen years of experience and an 83-56 overall record. He spent 2011-2013 at Troy High School in Central Texas and has been the head coach at Rockport-Fulton since 2014.

Seibert took his team to the regional finals four times four times (2013, 2014, 2018 and 2019) and also led the Pirates to a 10-win season in 2021. Prior to becoming a head coach, Seibert spent two seasons as an assistant at Liberty Hill and seven seasons as an assistant at Gregory-Portland, including four seasons as an offensive coordinator from 2007-2010.

Seibert’s best coaching job may have come in 2018 when after Hurricane Harvey did major damage to the community and several campuses. The Pirates football team put together a surprise run to the regional semifinals and united an entire community as the rebuilt after the storm.

Ace Seibert, the coach's son, will also be making the move. He's a 6-foot-3 senior-to-be QB who has started since his freshman season and was a first-team all-district selection a year ago.
