Little Elm ISD on Wednesday announced North Garland head coach Joe Castillo as the next head football coach at Little Elm High School, replacing Kendrick Brown who moved into an assistant athletic director role at LEISD. 

Castillo, a native of Garland and graduate of North Garland High School spent the past ten seasons at his alma mater, and led the Raiders to the playoffs in his final season at the helm where he posted as 6-5 record. Castillo took over a NGHS program in 2012 that had one just one game in the last two years. After winning just one game total in his first three seasons, the Raiders program made steady improvement winning three games in 2015 and 2017, then North Garland put together back-to-back 6-4 records in 2018 and 2019. Those were the first back-to-back winning seasons since 1999-2000. After struggling with Covid issues in 2020, North Garland posted a 6-5 record and advanced to the playoffs in 2021. 

Castillo, who also spent four seasons as head coach at San Antonio Burbank is also the vice president of the Hispanic Texas High School Football Coaches Association. He takes over at Little Elm where the Lobos posted a 5-5 record in just their second season as a 6A program in one of the state’s toughest districts.
