About the Houston Cougars

Andre Ware. Bill Yeoman. The Coogs. Greg Ward Jr. David Klingler. #HTownTakeover. Wade Phillips. Ed Oliver. Shasta & Sasha. Jack Pardee. Hail Houston. This is Houston Cougar football.

Fielding a team for the first time in 1946, the Coogs have a remarkably steady and successful history, highlighted by two peak eras. First, the run 'n shoot era under head coach Jack Pardee and offensive coordinator John Jenkins that saw Andre Ware win the schools first and only Heisman Trophy behind a barrage of offensive numbers, and the current era that truly began with Art Briles, then Kevin Sumlin, Tony Levine, Tom Herman and now Major Applewhite, where the national spotlight is again on a Houston player – Ed Oliver – putting up unreal numbers, this time on defense.
