McMichael was a busy man at Freer, lettering in tennis, golf, baseball, track, basketball and football. On the football field, the 6-3, 220-pounder caught 22 passes for 464 yards, rushed for 585 yards on just 84 carries and kicked 29 of 30 extra points and seven field goals. That was good enough to garner All-State honors on offense and defense as a senior in 1975, plus All-South Texas accolades. At the University of Texas, McMichael was switched to defensive end and was a three-time All-SWC pick and two-time All-American for the Longhorns.He was a third-round draft pick by New England and played 15 NFL seasons with the Patriots (1980), Chicago Bears (1981-93) and Green Bay Packers (1994), collecting 95 sacks in 213 career games. He was an All-NFL and Pro Bowl pick in 1986 and ’87.
