 One of football's all-time great runners began his career inauspiciously, playing linebacker for the 3-6-1 Trojans as a sophomore. Used primarily at blocking back as a junior, he still managed 687 rushing yards and 4 TDs as a 5-10, 190-pound FB. Moved to TB as a senior, he ran for a city record 2,554 yards and 39 TDs to lead University to 12-2 mark and the 4A quarterfinals in 1996. Earned first-team all-state and 4A Offensive Player of Year honors. Signed with TCU, where he rushed for school-record 5,387 yards and 56 TDs in 1997-2000, leading nation as a senior with 2,158 yards to win Doak Walker Award and finish 4th in Heisman vote. Taken by San Diego with 5th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, the 5-time Pro Bowler rushed for 13,684 yards, caught 624 passes and scored 162 TDs in 11 seasons with Chargers, Jets. Named NFL MVP in 2006 after rushing for league-best 1,815 yards and scoring NFL-record 31 TDs.
