Konz was a four year starter at Weimar and team captain from 1945-47. He led Weimar to Bi-District championships over Markham (20-8) in 1945 and La Coste (20-18) in 1946. His senior season Konz scored 274 points and passed for 16 touchdowns. He also set state records for yards per punt (44.6) and points scored in a game (50). Konz lettered four years at LSU from 1947-1951. He was a key player in LSU’s 1949 “Cinderella” season. He was the MVP of the 1950 Blue-Grey Game and was selected to play in the 1951 Senior Bowl and College All-Star Game. Konz was a No. 1 draft pick of the Cleveland Browns but served two years in the military playing for the Keesler Air Force Base Tarpons. Konz was a defensive back and returned punts for the Cleveland Browns from 1953-1959. He played in four NFL Championship Games and was member of championship teams in 1954 & 1955. Konz was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1955 & 1956. In 1956 he led the league in punt returns with a 14.4 average. He is also a member of the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame (1951) and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame (2000). Konz and Jack Pardee are the only Six-Man players in history to play in the NFL.
