Inducted in 1996

An outstanding all-around athlete at Harlingen, Lawrence led his team to back-to-back district and Rio Grande Valley titles in 1930 and ’31. He was a halfback and defensive back at TCU (1933-35), earning team MVP and All-America honors for the 1935 Horned Frogs’ team that beat LSU, 3-2, in the Sugar Bowl. The Chicago Cardinals first-round draft pick in 1936, Lawrence has also been inducted into the TCU (1987) and Rio Grande Valley (1989) Halls of Fame.
