At 6-feet-5, Dewitt Coulter was the biggest man ever to play for Masonic Home, and was leading the famed "Mighty Mites" to a possible state championship when the team was disqualified in 1940 for having an ineligible player. The two-way lineman was a three-time all-stater in football as well as a two-time state shot put champion, settering a national high school record in the event (59-1 1/2). Coulter earned all-America honors at West Point in 1945 opening holes for Heisman Trophy winners Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard as Army won the national championship. Taken in the first round of the NFL draft by New York, he spent seven seasons with the Giants and earned All-Pro recognition before playing his last four years with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. Coulter died on Oct. 2, 2007, at age 82.
