Texas High School Football Hall of Fame Inductees: Dan Hooks

Coach Dan R. Hooks posted a record of 277-71-2 during his time as head coach at West Orange-Stark from 1981-2010. He led the Mustang program to three straight Class 4A State Championship games between 1986-1988, and claimed two back-to-back state crowns in 1986 when the Mustangs toppled McKinney 21-9 in the state title game, and again in 1987 when they downed Rockwall 17-7. His 2000 team also advanced to the state championship game. Coach Hooks’ West Orange-Stark teams won 17 district titles and made the playoffs 19 times. Hooks coached NFL players like Kevin Smith, Chris Cole and Earl Thomas. Coach Hooks has been inducted into the Southeast Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor, the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Hall of Honor, and was named one of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Top 50 Most Memorable Coaches. In 2006, the Mustang Football Stadium was officially named Dan R. Hooks Stadium.
