Bert Coan was an all-state running backs in Texas during the 1950s at Pasadena High School. The 6-4, 190-pound blazer (9.5 speed in the 100) scored 51 touchdowns and totaled 386 points in three seasons with Eagles, and almost single-handedly won Class 4A state track title in 1957 with gold medals in long jump, 100, 220 and 440-yard relay. He was invited to play in the 1958 Oil Bowl and scored for the Texas squad in a 20-0 victory over the Oklahoma All Stars. Coan went on to play college football at TCU and Kansas. While at Kansas, Coan helped the Jayhawks defeat their rival and number one ranked Missouri Tigers 23-7 in the 1960 Border War. After his college career, Coan would be drafted by the Washington Redskins of NFL before going to play for the San Diego Chargers of the AFL. With the 1962 season under his belt, Coan would go to Kansas City where he would play the rest of his AFL career (1963-68). He helped lead the Chiefs to two Super Bowls before retiring in 1969. Coan would finish his professional career with 285 rushes for 1,259 yards, 39 catches for 367 yards and a total of 19 touchdowns.
