Katy ISD on Thursday announced the promotion of Katy Mayde Creek head coach J Jensen to an assistant athletic director position in Katy ISD.

Jensen, who has led Mayde Creek’s football program the past three seasons, is a Mayde Creek alum and has spent the vast majority of his coaching career in Katy ISD after a playing stint at Eastern New Mexico.

He first served as a junior high coach in Katy in 2003. He became the offensive line coach at Mayde Creek in 2005 where he spent six seasons. In 2010, Jensen went to Alief Taylor where he was the co-offensive coordinator before returning to Katy ISD in 2014 as an assistant at Katy Taylor where he was part of a state semifinal team in 2019.

Jensen was named the head football coach at Mayde Creek in March 2021 where he’s spent the past three seasons. He’s replacing Katy ISD assistant athletic director Pat Dowling, who is retiring. Jensen will begin his new role July 1 and will remain at Mayde Creek on campus to assist with the transition.
