SMU announced the hiring of Andy Enfield Monday morning.

The Mustangs moved on from Rob Lanier just two years into his tenure in hopes of landing a prominent name in the coaching ranks ahead of the program’s move to the ACC. The former USC head coach is the man they picked for that transition.

Enfield went 220-146 during his time in Los Angeles after first rising to prominence during Florida Gulf Coast’s Cinderella run to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012-13.

"We are excited to announce Andy Enfield as Head Men's Basketball Coach at SMU," said SMU athletics director Rick Hart in a statement. "Coach Enfield is enthusiastic about joining the Mustang family and the ACC. He has a strong track record of building winning teams on the court and in the classroom and pursuing championships with integrity. We believe he is a game changer for SMU Men's Basketball."

Enfield’s best season at USC was his run to the Elite Eight in 2020-21. A proven recruiter, Enfield brought in players like Evan Mobley, Isaiah Mobley, Kevin Porter Jr., De’Anthony Melton and Chimezie Metu who went on to play in the NBA.
