Marlin ISD named defensive coordinator Jeff Rogers as the next head football coach at Marlin High School on Monday.

Rogers, who was in his first year as the Bulldogs' DC, replaces Ruben Torres, who departed after three seasons to become the offensive coordinator at Class 6A Garland Naaman Forest.

“I’m really excited and thankful for this opportunity," Rogers said. "I can’t thank Dr. Henson our superintendent, Coach Bustamante our athletic director and the school board, for this amazing opportunity."

Rogers, who is also a member of the Texas State 7-on-7 Board of Directors, has plenty of experience coaching in Central Texas as an assistant working at Blooming Grove, Lexington, Groesbeck and Navasota where he spent six season on Lee Fedora’s staff. Rogers also spent one season as the head coach at Vanderbilt Industrial in 2014.

"I can’t put it into words how excited I am," he said. "This is a program where the arrow is pointed up. Our facilities upgrades are top of the line and I love working with these kids in Marlin."
