Laredo United South Joe Coss announced his retirement from coaching on Thursday after leading the Panthers program for six seasons posting a record of 30-35 and leading USHS to the playoffs in five of his six seasons at the helm.
Coss led the Panthers to their first ever outright district title in 2019 and in 2020 and 2021 he led the Panthers to back-to-back regional semifinal appearances, prior to Coss taking over United South had made just one third round playoff appearance in school history.
Prior to coming to Laredo United South, Coss served as an assistant at Round Rock Cedar Ridge, where he was part of a coaching staff that advanced to the Class 6A Division I state semifinals in 2017.
In a letter to the United South community stated, “As I step away from my coaching role, I am confident that the program will continue to thrive under new leadership,” his letter reads. “I have full faith in the capabilities of the coaching staff and the determination of the players. The program will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to support it from the sidelines.
Once again, thank you, community and program, for the memories, the challenges and the victories we shared. You have made my coaching career an unforgettable one. I will forever cherish the bonds we have formed and the lessons we have learned together.”
