Southlake Carroll (13-1) vs. DeSoto (13-0), 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen’s Eagle Stadium: Fresh off an emphatic avenging of its lone regular season loss, Southlake Carroll faces an even bigger challenge this week – a date with defending 6A-Division II state champion DeSoto.

After losing to Byron Nelson by 17 points in the regular season, Carroll totally obliterated the Bobcats last Saturday, 56-7. The Dragons’ running game was stout again as Davis Penn and Riley Wormley combined for 221 yards and six touchdowns. Georgia Tech QB commit QB Graham Knowles was efficient as well with 177 yards through the air and a pair of touchdowns.

DeSoto paid no attention to the phrase “It’s tough to beat a good team twice,” as the Eagles rolled to an easy 59-16 victory over district rival Cedar Hill on Friday. QB D.J. Bailey threw for 261 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while RB Tiger Riden tallied 105 yards and two scores on the ground and 43 receiving yards. Marvin Duffey and Jaden Trawick chipped in 83 combined rushing yards with each finding the end zone as well.

Carroll will be able to matchup with DeSoto in the trenches and that along with scheme will keep them in this. The Dragons won’t go out easily, but DeSoto’s just too much in all phases and the Eagles overwhelm Carroll by a couple of scores late.

Stepp’s Pick: DeSoto by 13
