DeSoto (11-0) vs. Willis (12-0), 7 p.m. Friday at San Antonio’s Alamodome: The showdown many across the state have been waiting for is finally here. It’s DFW vs. Houston in the fast track that is the Alamodome.
The QB matchup is one of the state’s best. DeSoto QB DJ Bailey, a Sam Houston commit is one of the state’s most underrated signal callers, while Willis boasts Florida commit DJ Lagway, who is considered the top QB in the state.
DeSoto knocked off Wylie East 42-20 last week as Bailey threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles had a pair of 100-yard rushers as well as Tiger Riden had 121 yards and a touchdown and Marvin Duffey added 108 yards and a score.
SMU commit WR Daylon Singleton added 213 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Willis rolled past Tomball Memorial, 42-21, last week as the Wildkats led 42-7 late before a pair of window-dressing touchdowns. Lagway, who has accounted for over 70 touchdowns total on the year, threw five touchdown passes to WR Jermaine Bishop, while also adding a rushing touchdown in the win.
The last time DeSoto faced a celebrated QB was in last year’s state semifinals when they knocked off Denton Guyer led by Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold. That win was fueled by DeSoto’s defense and offensive line and that’s where the Eagles have a big edge going into this matchup.
