Cuero (11-0) vs. Hamshire-Fannett (10-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Katy’s Rhodes Stadium: It’s a rematch of a third-round playoff showdown a year ago as unbeaten Cuero takes on 10-1 Hamshire-Fannett in a state ranked showdown in Katy.

Cuero’s defense was stout a week ago in the rain as it cruised to a 24-3 win over Robinson. QB Mason Notaro led the Gobblers with three rushing touchdowns, while the Gobblers defense held Robinson to less than 100 yards of offense.

Hamshire-Fannett emerged as the runner-up from a brutally tough district, and they looked ready for the playoffs with a 57-7 rout of Brookshire Royal a week ago. RB Chris Augustine ran for six touchdowns and also had an interception on defense to lead the Longhorns.

Cuero pulled away in the second half of this one, but this Hamshire-Fannett squad appears to be deeper and better on the defensive line. The best way to attack the Longhorns defense is attacking their secondary. The key is can Cuero consistently beat Hamshire-Fannett through the air?

Stepp’s Pick: Cuero by 4
