Kilgore (8-1, 5-0) vs Tyler Chapel Hill (8-1, 4-1): The showdown in East Texas many have been waiting for is here in 9-4A Division I as Kilgore, on an eight-game winning streak and ranked No. 4 in the state, takes on a No. 8 Chapel Hill squad that spent much of the season as the state’s No. 1 team.
Kilgore comes into this one off a bye week after getting pushed by a rapidly improving Athens squad in a 28-21 win. QB Derrick Williams threw for three touchdowns, two of those going to WR P.J. Wiley; DB Jayden Sanders had a 90-yard kickoff return to account for the Bulldogs offensive output in the win.
Chapel Hill had to wait until Saturday to take down Athens as storms postponed the Friday night game to Saturday. CHHS pulled away after a slow start for a 45-28 win.
SMU QB commit Demetrius Brisbon and SMU RB commit Rickey Stewart are the headliners for the Bulldogs, but the key for the CHHS success come playoff time will be how their defense led by LB Trevor Brooks plays, because we know Chapel Hill’s offense is going to score.
Chapel Hill has won three straight against Kilgore, including playoff wins in 2021 and 202. A win for Chapel Hill puts them in position for a share of a district title and the top seed in 9-4A Division I depending on points.
Kilgore wants this one badly, but I think Chapel Hill has cleaned things up after the Lindale loss at home. They get the win.
