Former Crosby head coach Jerry Prieto has been named the new athletic director and head coach at Lake Worth, the school district announced on Friday morning.

He'll replace Tracy Welch, who announced his retirement earlier this month.

Prieto steps into an intriguing Lake Worth situation. A Class 4A-Division I program just northwest of Fort Worth, Lake Worth posted a 10-3 mark a year ago and brings back several key players from that squad and should again contend for a district title.

Coach Prieto is best known for his four-year run as Crosby’s head coach from 2019-2022 where he posted a 36-17, leading Crosby to a state title game appearance in 2020 and a state semifinal appearance in 2021.

Prior to Crosby, he was the offensive coordinator at Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial ,which is one of South Texas’ top programs.

With the hire being so late, it’s likely Coach Prieto will inherit much of the existing staff at Lake Worth. It’ll be interesting to see how Coach Prieto, who is known for being an innovative offensive mind, implements his style and system with the existing personnel and coaches.
