Cedar Hill Trinity Leadership will enter their second UIL football season under new leadership as Oklahoma City Douglass head coach Derrick Adams returns to his home state to lead the Tigers program after a turbulent 2022 campaign.

Adams, a graduate of DeSoto High School, spent 13 years as an assistant in Texas with stops at DeSoto, Princeton, Dallas Carter, North Mesquite, Fort Worth YMLA and Lancaster before getting his shot as a head coach north of the Red River.

Douglass, a Class 3A school located in Oklahoma City, has an enrollment of just over 400 students. Adams took over in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and the program he inherited had won just a single game in each of the previous two seasons. After going winless in the first season while dealing with Covid restrictions, Adams’ teams improved to three wins in 2021 before regressing to a 2-8 mark in 2022.

“I’m excited to get back to my home state," he said. "It’s a dream to go home and Trinity Cedar Hill was my home church growing up, so it’ll be interesting to see it as a charter school now."

Cedar Hill Trinity Leadership went 3-7 in its first UIL season in their first UIL. Its season was derailed with a forfeit loss in district play and then a forfeit of their first-round playoff game when they mis-understood UIL rules regarding a forfeit in district play.

Adams' leadership, steady-hand and familiarity with UIL rules and procedures will no doubt bring stability to the Tigers program as they navigate year two in District 7-3A Division II.
