Fort Bend Dulles head coach Shane Byrd announced to his team Monday morning that he was stepping down from his role to take over the family business in the Brazos Valley.

This will be the second FBISD head football job that’s opened this year as Fort Bend Crawford, which opens in August, was also open. Ironically, Crawford hired Dulles offensive coordinator David Jackson for that position.

“This was a great opportunity to take over our family business," he said. "My dad is retiring and we decided this was the right move for us." 

Byrd spent the past four seasons as the Vikings head coach and the three years before that he was the offensive coordinator at Dulles.

He has also spent time as an assistant at Kyle Lehman, Corpus Christi Moody and Austin High. He’s a former student at Texas A&M and has extensive ties to the Bryan-College Station area.

“It’s tough to leave for sure," he said. "I’m going to miss the kids and coaches, the camaraderie of being part of a team. Fort Bend ISD administration and the campus administration here at Dulles has been great to me and my family, we are going to miss it."

Fort Bend ISD has the job posted on THSCA with a closing date of March 21.
