Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has learned that Midwestern State will name former Texas A&M-Commerce offensive coordinator Billy Riebock to the same position with the Mustangs. MSU will also add Eastern Illinois tight ends coach Gunnard Twyner as wide receivers coach. In addition, DCTF learned that former MSU defensive backs coach is headed to the Rio Grande Valley to join the UTRGV coaching staff.

Riebock was the offensive coordinator for the Lions for the last four seasons under former head coach David Bailiff. Riebock’s offense was the focus of much ire from the Lions fan base, but injuries at quarterback plagued his time in Commerce. Before joining the Lions, Riebock served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Bridgewater College, following one year as an offensive quality control coach at Rice.

An All-American at Western Illinois, Twyner began coaching following his playing career. Twyner played for Cincinnati and New Orleans before spending four years in the Arena Football League with Tampa Bay, Buffalo, and Columbus.

Twyner earned Coach of the Year honors at a high school in Maryland and spent time on the Indianapolis Colts coaching staff. Twyner had college coaching stops at Western Illinois, Dodge City, and Lafayette before spending last year as tight ends coach at Eastern Illinois.

McDonald spent his previous two years at MSU after two seasons as a graduate assistant under Zac Spatival at Texas State. McDonald played defensive back for Spatival at Houston and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award while twice earning All-American Athletic Conference honors with the Cougars. He set a school record with 17 career interceptions before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers.
