There’s a lot to like about what’s going on in Decatur right now.
Steve Huff made an immediate impact in his first year leading the program, guiding them to an 11-4 record, which equaled the previous two years combined.
They’ve got plenty of talent on the field, too, particularly out wide with 2024 receivers Luke White and Landon Felts.
“These two have not even touched their potential,” Huff said. “I know they will be break out players this upcoming season just by evaluating how their offseason is going.”
Felts (6-1, 178) racked up 48 receptions for 588 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, while White (6-4, 190) had nine catches for 189 yards and three scores.
The two have been friends forever, beginning in flag football. Now, they’re tormenting defenses on Friday nights.
“There is no ceiling for either one of them,” Huff said. “They can go as far they want, and let me tell you, they have the WANT in them. It is a matter of opportunity.”
White’s maturation is coming along quickly. The frame is there, now it’s about fine-tuning.
“I have always had pretty good hands but that is something I continuously work on,” White said. “As for my speed, I keep getting faster the older and stronger I get. I do agility drills about three to four times a week, which has been very helpful for me.”
Additionally, White excels as a multi-sport athlete for the Eagles in basketball and golf.
Felts is a nightmare in the slot, but he’s looking forward to expanding on his roles in 2023.
“I’m quick and shifty, which helps make other defenders miss,” Felts said. “I listen to my coaches and whether I am on defense playing safety or offense playing the slot, I’ll make the play if it is called my way.”
What makes these two even more special is that they are leaders on their team and in their community.
