Saginaw Boswell head coach John Abendschan announced to his team on Tuesday morning that he was stepping down as the Pioneers long-time head coach and moving into the role of Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD assistant athletic director.

Abendschan has been an institution in Northwest Tarrant County leading the Boswell program for the past 17 seasons. He posted a 120-70 overall record and led Boswell to the playoffs 13 times. Even more impressive is the fact that he’s guided Boswell through significant growth in the school district which has grown to three high schools (with a fourth high school in the process of being built).

Boswell won 10 games twice during Abendschan’s run leading the Pioneer and in 2016 they advanced to the 5A-Division II regional finals before falling to eventual state champion Aledo.

Offensive coordinator Wes Weaver will serve as Boswell’s interim head coach during the transition and considering Boswell’s success in recent years, you have to think there will be at least some consideration to keep the job internal. However, with recent facility upgrades in EMSISD, an attractive location and a recent track record of success, you have to think if the job gets opened up there will be some big names take a close look at this job.
