Richland Wins the Eleventh Annual FSN Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship

COLLEGE STATION -- Down 26-14 at halftime, receiver Anton Arthurs caught two second half touchdowns as the Richland Rebels beat Mesquite 35-32 at the FSN Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship Saturday at Kyle Field. 

Richland quarterback Tyler Cotton threw five touchdowns and converted all five extra points in the game. Two of his receivers made the all-tournament team, including Arthurs and Most Valuable Player Phillip Gonzales, who sat out the championship game with an injury. 

Mesquite led by twelve points going into the second half after scoring on its first four possessions. In the second half, Mesquite only escaped being shut out by scoring a touchdown with 20 seconds left, missing its third extra point try of the game afterwards. 

Mesquite quarterback Luke Halpin threw threw five touchdown passes, two each to Darien McNealy and Marcus Trice.

In the consolation final, Abilene defeated Langham Creek 34-33 after quarterback Stephen Warren found Prentice Ashford on the left side of the end zone with 6 minutes, 21 seconds left to tie the score. Alex Tomares caught the extra point from Warren in heavy traffic to give Abilene a one-point lead. On the next possession, Cameron Walding picked off Langham Creek quarterback Will Bryant in the end zone to clinch the victory for the Eagles.
