About the UTEP Miners

The Sun Bowl. Aaron Jones. Mike Brumbelow. Cardiac Hill. Mike Price. Paydirt Pete. Don Maynard. Dynamite the burro. Fred Carr. The Silver Spade and the Brass Spittoon. Seth Joyner. This is UTEP football. 

The State College of Mines and Metallurgy hit the football field for the first time in 1914 under head coach Tommy Dwyer. The school changed its name to Texas Western in 1949, and the following year, Brumbelow became head coach and went on to become the program's most successful head coach with a .651 winning percentage over seven seasons. Price ushered in a new era of stability of success from 2004-12, winning 40 games and appearing in three bowls.
