Over 250 players were signed to the 13 FBS programs in Texas via the transfer portal with the usual suspects such as Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M improving their rosters for 2026. Let’s take a look at the 10-best signings across the Lone Star State.

1. Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech

Previous School: Cincinnati

The injury to Will Hammond meant that the Red Raiders and OC Mack Leftwich required a one-year rental at the position in 2026 with Behren Morton out of eligibility. Some would argue they upgraded at QB by landing Sorsby, ESPN’s top-rated player in the 2026 portal. The Texas native was second-team All-Big 12 in 2025 after throwing for 2,800 passing yards and 27 touchdowns while adding nine more scores and 580 rushing yards. He began his career at Indiana, where he started seven times in 2023 before transferring to Cincinnati when Curt Cignetti arrived.

2. WR Cam Coleman, Texas

Previous School: Auburn

The incoming junior was a five-star recruit and the top-ranked player in Alabama as a prep star before landing at Auburn. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound Coleman is a physical specimen who will be coveted by NFL franchises once he’s draft eligible in 2026. He was in the same high school recruiting class as Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Wingo, who will now be Texas’ No. 2 wide receiver. He recorded 93 catches for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons at Auburn despite horrendous quarterback play. Arch Manning and Coleman should form the top passing duo in the SEC.

3. DL Mateen Ibirogba, Texas Tech

Previous School: Wake Forest

The Red Raiders are replacing Lee Hunter with Ibirogba, the top-rated defensive tackle in the portal per On3. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder should fit right into Shiel Wood’s defensive system after starting 12 times for the Demon Deacons and registering 21 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks in 2025. He was one of seven defensive linemen added in the portal cycle by Tech.

4. LB Rasheem Biles, Texas

Previous School: Pitt

Biles was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2025 after leading the league with 17.5 tackles for loss, which ranked eighth in the entire FBS. The 6-1, 220-pound Biles will be a perfect replacement for the departing Anthony Hill Jr. because of his athleticism and playmaking ability in the backfield. He was the No. 1-ranked linebacker in the portal and should thrive in the aggressive defense implemented by new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. He’ll headline a linebacker room that includes Ty’Anthony Smith, Brad Spence, and incoming five-star Tyler Atkinson. Texas also signed Florida State linebacker transfer Justin Cryer.

5. OT Melvin Siani, Texas

Previous School: Wake Forest

The Texas offensive line was a glaring issue for much of the 2025 season and the Horns went about securing the front lines with Siani, one of the top offensive tackle prospects available. He and Trevor Goosby will form one of the best tackle tandems in football and both are future NFL draft picks. Siani started his career at Temple before transferring to Wake Forest ahead of the 2025 season, where he started 13 games and didn’t allow a sack on 914 snaps.

6. QB DJ Lagway, Baylor

Previous School: Florida

The former Willis High School star entered 2025 with high expectations after throwing for 1,915 yards and 12 touchdowns to nine interceptions as a true freshman in 2024. Injuries have hampered his development, however, as he suffered through an up-and-down 2025 that ended with 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. OC Jake Spavital has a long track record with talented quarterbacks and he’ll need to harness Lagway’s immense potential while cutting down on the mistakes. Lagway, whose father, Derek, played running back at Baylor, is the most talented QB to play at Baylor since RG3. Whether he reaches that potential likely determines the Bears’ fate in 2026.

7. WR Isaiah Horton, Texas A&M

Previous School: Alabama

The Aggies are losing both starters at offensive tackle, including long-time captain and left tackle Trey Zuhn. Formby started at right tackle for the Crimson Tide and could replace Dametrious Crownover on that side, especially if former five-star Lamont Rogers is ready to be the anchor at left tackle starting in 2026. Formby can also play guard, where the Aggies lost Chase Bisontis (LG) and Armaj Reed-Adams (RG) to the NFL draft. He carries 16 starts into his move to Texas A&M and he’ll have two years of eligibility left. Almost every spot along the Texas A&M offensive line is open outside of center where Mark Nabou returns.

8. CB Rickey Gibson, Texas A&M

Previous School: Tennessee

A starting spot at cornerback and nickel is open for the Wrecking Crew with the departures of Will Lee III and Tyreek Chappell. Gibson arrives from Tennessee to compete with Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphry for a starting spot at one of the corner positions. He missed most of the 2025 season with an injury that he suffered in the opener against Syracuse. He started 12 times at corner for the Volunteers during the 2024 season and was third on the team in pass breakups with 32.

9. QB Jaden Craig, TCU

Previous School: Harvard

TCU dipped into the Ivy League to replace Hoover and provide new offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis with a signal-caller for 2026. Craig threw for 2,869 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2025 and 2,430 yards and 23 scores in 2024. He’s played in 28 games over three years at Harvard and leaves as the program’s all-time leader in passing yards. He’s not overly mobile, gaining 78 yards and scoring three times on 48 attempts last season. Craig led Harvard to a 19-5 record as a starter and a share of the Ivy League title in all three years he was active.

10. RB Makhi Hughes, Houston

Previous School: Oregon

Hughes arrives in Third Ward after a one-year stop at Oregon, where his previous production at Tulane didn’t carry over to the Ducks’ offense in 2025. Hughes ran for 1,378 yards as a freshman in 2023 and 1,401 as a sophomore in 2024 at Tulane. He scored 22 touchdowns over those two seasons. A bounce-back year could unlock a Houston offense that returns QB Conner Weigman and WR Amare Thomas.
