You'd be hard-pressed to find a kicker in the Lone Star State with as prominent a resume as Lubbock-Cooper’s Cub Patton.

Now try to find one like this that still has two years of high school left. Good luck.

Following his sophomore season with the Pirates in 2022, Patton was also named to DCTF’s Whataburger Super-Team as the Fan’s Choice Kicker, one of the many honors the 2025 prospect received.

With his recruitment process beginning this Fall and in order to maximize his exposure to coaches, Patton finds an advantage in marketing himself by way of his personal website, CubPatton.com.

“That’s all props to my mom,” Patton said. “One day we thought it’d be a good idea to put on my Twitter so instead of scrolling, coaches can click on that and find everything real easily. I’ve never seen another recruit with a personal website or anything, and I think it’s really helpful.”

Throughout the website, you can find social media contacts, awards, articles from news outlets, and game film. Oh, and you can also watch Patton’s 50-yard game-winning field goal that put Lubbock-Cooper on top of local foe Coronado, 15-14, as time expired on Sept. 30.

“My work ethic in practice proved that I could kick that field goal,” Patton said. “The week before that game, I made a 50 yard field goal in practice, so my coaches believed in me and knew I could make it from any point on the field.”

The Pirates went on to finish the 2022 season 9-3 overall, placing second in District 2-5A with a 5-1 record. That mark was good enough to get them into the 5A D1 UIL Texas State Championships where they defeated Bel Air 59-7 in bi-district, but fell in the second round to the eventual state champion Aledo, 45-21.

Despite the loss, Patton remembers Lubbock-Cooper’s deep run in the state tournament in 2021, strengthening the belief that his Pirates can make it further in the coming years.

“Job’s not done,” he explained. “My freshman year we made it to the state semifinals, which was awesome. Junior year or senior year I’m hoping we get that state title.”

When the calendar hits September 1, Patton will be able to be in contact with college coaches to begin his recruitment. However, the 2025 graduate has already received summer camp invites from many Division 1 programs in and out of the state, including Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, North Texas, Louisville, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt.
