Holy Smokes, These Guys are Assistant Coaches Now?

Nick Gerber, Lubbock Liberty QB Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

In his senior year as Levelland’s quarterback in 2016, Gerber became the TXHSFB record holder with 5,617 passing yards and 77 passing touchdowns in a single season. 

Gerber was a four-year starter at West Texas A&M and is now an assistant at Lubbock Liberty High School. The Patriots went 10-2 last year in just their second varsity season.

Dane Jentsch, Grandview Assistant

Jentsch is the only player in TXHSFB history to win the Offensive and Defensive MVP award in a state championship game twice, doing so in Grandview’s back-to-back run in 2018 and 2019. 

After playing college football at Lamar and Navarro Junior College, Jentsch is back at his alma mater as an assistant coach. His younger brother, Briggs, earned Padilla Poll Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman.

Ben Harmon, New Boston Offensive Coordinator

Harmon was a two-time State Champion and two-time First Team All-District Player at Texarkana Pleasant Grove. He compiled a 44-4 career record as the team’s starting quarterback, leading the Hawks to three consecutive state championship games from 2017-19.

Harmon played college baseball at Seminole State Junior College and Little Rock before serving as an offensive assistant at his alma mater. This offseason, he accepted a position as New Boston’s offensive coordinator.

Landry Gilpin, Mission Veterans Memorial QB Coach

Gilpin was the 2018 Mr. Texas Football winner after throwing for 4,544 yards and 50 touchdowns and rushing for 2,112 yards and 32 touchdowns in his senior year at Mission Veterans Memorial.

After playing college football at Southwestern, Gilpin joined his father David, ’s coaching staff at his alma mater, where he serves as the quarterbacks coach. Mission Veterans Memorial was named the most improved team of 2025 by DCTX.

Tyrone Swoopes, Lindale Eagles TE Coach

Swoopes was an all-state quarterback from Whitewright who played quarterback for four years at the University of Texas. His game-winning touchdown in overtime against No.10-ranked Notre Dame in the 2016 season-opener is the signature moment of his career on the Forty Acres.

After college, Swoopes converted to tight end and spent multiple years in the NFL. He is now coaching tight ends at Lindale High School. The Eagles 10-2 record last season was the best finish since 2020. 

Rashad Bobino, Cypress Ranch Strength Coach, LB Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

Bobino was a three-time All-Big 12 selection at the University of Texas who started 45 games over his career in Austin. The middle linebacker finished with 235 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

Bobino is part of fellow former Big 12 player Will Blaylock's (Baylor) staff at Cypress Ranch. The Mustangs' 10-3 finish last season was the best finish since 2014. 

Armanti Foreman, Houston Madison WR Coach

Foreman, a wide receiver and defensive back, was a four-time all-district selection at Texas City High School. By his senior year in 2013, he shared District Co-MVP honors with his brother, D’Onta, and was also an all-state defensive back.

After a four-year career at the University of Texas, Foreman joined the TXHSFB coaching ranks and is now a wide receivers coach at Houston Madison. The Marlins improved from 3-7 to 9-2 in head coach James Soria’s second season.

Deon Hollins, Houston Madison LB Coach

In his senior year at Fort Bend Marshall, linebacker Deon Hollins was named the Area Defensive Player of the Year by the Houston Touchdown Club after racking up 44 tackles for loss and 24 sacks in one season. Hollins transitioned to the defensive line at UCLA and was a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection who led the team in sacks as a sophomore. 

Hollins is now a linebackers coach at Houston Madison, a critical part of a staff that improved the Marlins from 3-7 to 9-2 in head coach James Soria’s second season.

Will Reed, Royse City Offensive Coordinator

Reed was a three-year starter at Rockwall High School, earning District 12-5A Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and First Team All-District 11-6A as a senior in 2015. Over his last two seasons, Reed passed for 63 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions. 

Reed is currently entering his second year as Royse City’s offensive coordinator.

Desmon White, Lake Worth Middle School

White was the District MVP as a senior quarterback at DeSoto in 2013 after throwing for 2,886 yards and rushing for 1,175. He went on to a four-year career at TCU and tied for the team lead in receptions in 2017.

White now works as a middle school coach in Lake Worth ISD.

Silas Robinson, Yoakum OL Coach and Run Game Coordinator

Robinson (Yoakum, Class of 2018) became a three-star prospect on the offensive line after paving the way for two 1,000-yard rushers. 

He played college football for Arkansas, Texas State, and UIW before returning to his alma mater as the offensive line coach and run-game coordinator. The Bulldogs won the first state championship in program history last year after Jace Morales and X’Zavier Barnett each rushed for over 190 yards in the title game.

Brian Parish, Richardson Berkner Offensive Coordinator

Parish was a First Team All-District offensive lineman who paved the way for Arlington Seguin to rush for over 2,500 yards in the 2016 season. 

After playing college football at North Texas and Massachusetts, Parish is back in DFW as the offensive coordinator at Richardson Berkner. The Rams’ 7-4 record last season was the highest win total since 2011.
