After posting one winning season from 2010 to 2023, Austin Anderson went 7-4 in its first year in 5A and is now 8-0 for the first time in school history, behind senior running back Caleb Crenshaw’s 1,662 yards.
Beaumont United
2022-23 in 6A: 3-17
2024-25 in 5A: 8-10
Beaumont United hasn’t had a winning season since starting varsity football in 2018, but first-year head coach Drenard Williams has the Timberwolves at 5-3.
Beaumont West Brook
2022-23 in 6A: 1-19
2024-25 in 5A: 9-9
West Brook made the 6A DII State Championship in 2018, but the program suffered a 1-19 skid in its last two years as a 6A squad. This season, the Bruins started 4-0 but have gone 1-3 in District 9-5A DI play.
Brownsville Rivera
2022-23 in 6A: 4-16
2024-25 in 5A: 3-15
Brownsville Rivera hasn’t made the postseason in a decade, and the drop down to 5A didn’t help as much as most would think. District 15-5A DI is one of the state’s most loaded leagues, with Corpus Christi Flour Bluff and PSJA North both at 8-0 and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, not far behind at 6-2.
El Paso Americas
2022-23 in 6A: 11-10
2024-25 in 5A: 8-10
Back in 5A for the first time since 2013, Americas is 5-3 and seeking its second winning season since 2019.
El Paso El Dorado
2022-23 in 6A: 6-14
2024-25 in 5A: 17-2
A drop to 5A, combined with the emergence of Minnesota RB commit Ryan Estrada, powered El Dorado to its first ten-win season in school history in 2024. The Aztecs are currently 7-1.
Fort Worth Chisholm Trail
2022-23 in 6A: 3-17
2024-25 in 5A: 12-7
Former head coach Ricklan Holmes led the Rangers to their first playoff appearance in school history in 2024. New head coach Marvin Nash, most recently the assistant director of player personnel at Ole Miss, has Chisholm Trail at 5-3 and in the hunt for a playoff spot in the nine-team District 4-5A DI.
Fort Worth Paschal
2022-23 in 6A: 6-14
2024-25 in 5A: 12-7
Paschal reached the playoffs for the first time since 1995 last season and is currently 5-3. The last time the Panthers had back-to-back winning seasons was 1976-77.
Highland Park
2022-23 in 6A: 21-3
2024-25 in 5A: 21-3
Highland Park won three-straight 5A DI State Championships from 2016-18 and reached the title game last year after bumping down.
Houston Spring Woods
2022-23 in 6A: 3-17
2024-25 in 5A: 6-12
Second-year coach Andrew Rohrs is searching for Spring Woods’ first winning season since 1996.
Houston Westbury
2022-23 in 6A: 7-15
2024-25 in 5A: 13-6
With 14 starters returning, Westbury is 8-1 and has already matched its highest win total since the 2008 season.
Keller Fossil Ridge
2022-23 in 6A: 8-12
2024-25 in 5A: 4-15
Low numbers in the senior class have led to a 1-8 record in 2025. From 2013 to 2018, Fossil Ridge had just one losing season (a 5-6 record in 2015). Since 2018, the Panthers haven’t had a winning season.
Mission

First-year head coach Jody Cantu’s ball club started 1-5 but has rebounded nicely with two consecutive wins in a push for a playoff spot.
New Braunfels

Back in 5A for the first time since 2013, the Unicorns are racing to their fifth-consecutive playoff appearance with a 6-2 record.
Pasadena

Pasadena’s last winning season was in 2002. The Eagles will face Fort Bend Kempner this week in a battle of 0-5 District 11-5A DI teams.
Pflugerville Weiss

First-year head coach Malcolm Hill was hired in early June but has hit the ground running with a 7-1 start.
San Antonio John Jay

2024-25 in 5A: 16-3
The Mustangs are racing to their third-consecutive playoff appearance with a 7-1 record, which would be the first time in school history. Nothing is guaranteed, however, in the hectic District 14-5A DI, which has the possibility of a five-way tie for district champion.

Austin Eastside didn’t win a game from 2018 to 2023. This season, they’ve clinched a playoff appearance in District 13-4A DI with a 6-3 record.
Austin LBJ
2022-23 in 5A: 17-6
2024-25 in 4A: 17-3
The Jaguars reached the Class 4A DI State Championship in 2021 before spending the next two seasons in 5A. Austin LBJ had to forfeit its wins from an 11-1 2024 season, but the program hasn’t lost a District 13-4A DII game.
Austin Northeast
2022-23 in 5A: 6-14
2024-25 in 4A: 2-17
Northeast has had one winning season since 2003. The Raiders have won two District 13-4A DI games in two years, both against Austin Achieve.
Austin Travis

2024-25 in 4A: 10-9
Travis made two consecutive playoff appearances but has stumbled to a 1-3 District 13-4A DI record after having to replace 16 starters on both sides of the ball.
Dallas Conrad

Conrad has had just two winning seasons since the program started in 2008.
Dallas Kimball

Houston Northside

Lake Dallas

Lake Dallas dropped a classification but was placed in arguably the toughest district in Texas, regardless of level. District 7-4A DI is a gauntlet with Celina, Frisco Panther Creek, and Sulphur Springs.
Longview Pine Tree

2024-25 in 4A: 15-5
Coach Jason Bachman led the Pirates to their first 10-win season since 1976 in their first year in 4A. Pine Tree has bounced back from a 0-2 start with a 5-1 stretch.
Pharr Valley View

2024-25 in 4A: 2-16
Valley View has only had two winning seasons since the program started in 2006. The Tigers’ two wins in the past two seasons have both come against Rio Grande City Grulla.

Orange Grove had four consecutive 10-win seasons from 2012-15, and the Bulldogs have put on a vintage performance with a 7-1 start to this year.

In one of the state’s best stories, first-year head coach Will Littleton has the Bearkats at 8-0 after five consecutive losing seasons.
San Antonio YMLA

Sweetwater started 1-4 after playing three 4A programs. The offense is averaging 48 points per game in District 3-3A DI play.
Texarkana Liberty-Eylau

Hemphill

Hemphill went to the lower classification but was dropped in a District 11-2A DI gauntlet with San Augustine, Garrison, Timpson, Joaquin and Shelbyville.
Paul Pewitt

2024-25 in 2A district: 6-4
The Brahmas have missed the playoffs only once in 16 seasons, and 2025 should be no different, with a 6-2 overall record.
Spearman

2024-25 in 2A district: 5-3
Spearman entered the year as one of 2A’s most experienced teams with 19 starters, and that continuity has resulted in a 6-2 record.
Waskom
2022-23 in 3A district: 6-6
2024-25 in 2A district: 11-1
After six double-digit win seasons in nine years under Whitney Keeling, Waskom is back to its winning ways under Wade Lawson. Lawson coached the Wildcats to a 10-3 season last year, and the 2025 team is 6-2 currently.
2A to 1A
Boys Ranch
2022-23 in 2A district: 1-7
2024-25 in 1A district: 1-5
Boys Ranch started 4-0 for the first time in school history and can secure a playoff spot with a win over Wildorado.
