Monday morning, Baylor head coach Dave Aranda confirmed that starting quarterback Blake Shapen injured his MCL toward the end of the season-opener against Texas State and will be out for 2-3 weeks following an MRI. Lubbock Coronado product and former Mississippi State quarterback Sawyer Robertson will start this weekend vs Utah.

Shapen was seen noticeably limping toward the end of the Texas State game resulting in Robertson closing the night out behind center. Robertson was brought in this off-season to provide veteran competition in addition to NAU transfer RJ Martinez before Shapen won out following the conclusion of spring camp.

Robertson was a former consensus four-star recruit coming out of the South Plains where he threw for over 7,500 yards and 91 touchdowns over his junior and senior seasons. He still ranks in the top 15 in all-time passing yards in Texas high school football history.
