Kermit ISD on Saturday named former Alpine athletic director and head football coach John Fellows as the next athletic director/head football coach at Kermit High School.

Fellows, who resigned his post at Alpine in January has a long track record of success coaching in Far West Texas where he has a 102-75 overall record with stops at Iraan, McCamey and Alpine. Fellows has been at Alpine the past eight seasons, where he led the Fightin’ Bucks to the playoffs in each year. His best season was a 9-3 mark in 2019.

He takes over a Kermit program in need of a jolt, they’ll be on their third head coach in three seasons and they’ve had five straight losing season, although they were a playoff team in 2022. Kermit hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2007 season.

“I just want to thank Dr. Lopez and the Kermit ISD school board for believing in me, I think this is a great opportunity, being in Kermit puts me a little closer to family and an airport as well. I’m excited to get going and meet the kids, be a part of the community and get to work in off-season,” said Coach Fellows.
