Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has confirmed that Houston Christian will name Braxton Harris its second head coach in program history. He will be introduced at a press conference on campus at noon Tuesday.

Harris spent the last two seasons as associate head coach, linebackers coach, and recruiting coordinator for Mike Minter at Campbell. Harris led the Camels to one of the top FCS recruiting classes during the last two years.

Prior to joining Campbell, Harris turned around the Howard Payne football program. He took over a program that went just 1-19 in the two previous seasons before his arrival. After back-to-back one-win campaigns, Harris led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-5 record, their best campaign since 2006.

Harris is known as one of the top recruiters in the country and helped lead Texas Lutheran to a SCAC championship in 2013 as the assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator. He also coached defensive ends and linebackers while serving as recruiting coordinator and special teams coordinator with the Bulldogs.

Before entering the coaching profession, Harris was a quarterback at Mary Hardin-Baylor from 2003-2005 and was a member of the 2004 Crusaders squad that appeared in the 2004 Stagg Bowl. His coaching career began as a student assistant at UMHB, where he excelled as a recruiting coordinator. The hire was first reported by FootballScoop.
