Derek Parish has officially put the nation on notice after breaking America Athletic Conference records this weekend against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
It’s only week two into the college football season!
Parish’s 4.5 sack, 6.5 tackles for loss, and forced fumble has earned him the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honors, as voted on by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) for the week of Sept. 10.
The Pearland, Tx native is currently top five in the nation in sacks while also accounting for half of the Cougars sacks and leading the team in tackles for loss. To add insult to injury of how much of an impact Parish made, he broke records while not even starting the game.
The Cougars will play the first of their three-game home stand when they host future Big 12 Kansas on Saturday, Sept. 17. They will then welcome an opponent in Rice only four miles down the road on Sept. 24.
