The portal is technically closed and most of the top players that entered have found new homes ahead of the spring semester. We’ll break down each of the 13 FBS portal classes across the state of Texas, continuing with the Aggies, who could enter the 2026 season as a Top 10 team expected to return to the College Football Playoff in Year 3 under Mike Elko.
Overview
Texas A&M’s 2026 transfer portal class is ranked third by On3 behind only Texas Tech and Indiana. The Aggies have added 18 players while losing only 14. Half of those 18 signees play along the offensive and defensive line. Elko made it clear after the loss to Miami at home in the first round of the CFP that Texas A&M must run the ball and stop the run better to compete for SEC and national championships. The Wrecking Crew will receive help from the likes of DL C.J. Mims (North Carolina), CB Rickey Gibson (Tennessee), DE Anto Saka (Northwestern), and S Tawfiq Byard (Colorado). Signing WR Isaiah Horton (Alabama) helped ease the pain of losing to Texas on Cam Coleman.
Class Grade: A+
Three Key Additions
OT Wilkin Formby, Alabama: The Aggies are losing both starters at offensive tackle, including long-time captain and left tackle Trey Zuhn. Formby started at right tackle for the Crimson Tide and could replace Dametrious Crownover on that side, especially if former five-star Lamont Rogers is ready to be the anchor at left tackle starting in 2026. Formby can also play guard, where the Aggies lost Chase Bisontis (LG) and Armaj Reed-Adams (RG) to the NFL draft. He carries 16 starts into his move to Texas A&M and he’ll have two years of eligibility left. Almost every spot along the Texas A&M offensive line is open outside of center where Mark Nabou returns.
CB Rickey Gibson, Tennessee: A starting spot at cornerback and nickelback is open for the Wrecking Crew with the departures of Will Lee III and Tyreek Chappell. Gibson arrives from Tennessee to compete with Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphry for a starting spot at one of the corner positions. He missed most of the 2025 season with an injury that he suffered in the opener against Syracuse. He started 12 times at corner for the Volunteers during the 2024 season and was third on the team in pass breakups with 32.
DE Anto Saka, Northwestern: The biggest loss for the Texas A&M defense was edge rusher Cashius Howell, who is off to the NFL after recording 11.5 sacks and earning SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. Saka has the potential to replace that production and his body type should hold up against the run in the SEC. Saka was honorable mention All-Big Ten after starting 11 times for the Wildcats and registering four tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles a year ago.
Two Sleepers
TE Houston Thomas, UTSA: The Aggies need new faces to produce at tight end and Thomas was a standout at the G5 level for the Roadrunners. Texas A&M saw him up close in the opener in 2025 when he caught two passes for 22 yards. Thomas ended the year with 34 catches for 347 yards and a pair of scores and he leaves San Antonio with 78 catches for 918 yards and five touchdowns in his career. At 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, he can also stand his ground in the running game against P4 defensive lines.
K David Olano, Illinois: The Achilles’ heel for Texas A&M for much of the 2025 season was place kicking as Randy Bond and Jared Zirkel combined to go 16-of-26. They missed at least one field goal in eight of the 13 games, including a 5-for-10 mark over the last four games of the season. Olano was 17-of-20 as a junior at Illinois in 2025 and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection. He made 12 consecutive kicks between Week 2 and Week 9 with a long of 44 and a perfect mark on extra points.
