Teams Moving DOWN a Classification in the 2026-28 Realignment Cycle

Down to 5A (All from 6A to 5A DI unless otherwise noted)

Manor 

  • After a 0-10 season, the Mustangs are back in 5A for the first time since 2021.

Mansfield Legacy

  • The Broncos have not had a winning season since 2018. 

Spring Westfield 

  • After double-digit win seasons in 12 of 13 years, Spring Westfield has gone 8-3 and 6-5 over the last two years. 

Fort Bend Dulles 

  • Dulles is back in 5A for the first time since 2013. The Vikings last winning season was 2018.

Cedar Hill 

  • Cedar Hill is back in 5A for the first time since 2013. 

Houston Northbrook 

  • Northbrook won 12 games in Class 6A from 2014 to 2025. 

Lancaster 

  • Lancaster is back in 5A after two seasons in the “District of Doom” 11-6A. 

Baytown Goose Creek Memorial 

  • The Patriots drop to 5A after posting a 4-6 record under first-year head coach JayMond Cleveland, the best win total since 2020. 

Killeen Shoemaker 

  • Shoemaker went 7-3 but missed the playoffs in the brutal 12-6A. 

South Houston 

  • South Houston went 0-10 last year, their seventh consecutive losing season.

New Caney 

  • After eight-straight playoff berths in Class 5A, New Caney made the playoffs in one of four years in 6A. 

Mesquite 

  • The Skeeters have had one winning season in the last seven years. 

Wolfforth Frenship 

  • Frenship moves to 5A DI after the opening of Frenship Memorial.

Killeen 

  • Killeen is back to 5A after posting a 1-19 record over two seasons in 6A.

Medina Valley 

  • Medina Valley had its first double-digit win season since 2009 and now moves back to 5A.

Houston Wisdom (6A to 5A DII)

  • The Generals made the playoffs for the first time since 1979 last year and now drop two classifications.

Note: Defending 6A DII State Champion DeSoto has 5A DI enrollment numbers and will have a decision on whether or not to opt up. DeSoto opted up to 6A last realignment cycle.

Down to 4A (All from 5A DII to 4A DI)

Kerrville Tivy 

  • The Antlers are back in 4A for the first time since 2013. First-year head coach Curtis Neill led Kerrville Tivy to a 6-5 record last season, the third consecutive six-win season. 

El Paso Andress 

  • The Eagles went 9-3 last year in the best season since 2021.

Corpus Christi King 

  • The Mustangs drop to 4A after their second 0-10 season in the last three years.

Jacksonville 

  • Jacksonville has won 1 game in the last three years.

Corpus Christi Moody

  • Often hovering around .500, Moody’s last winning season was 2017.

Plainview 

  • The Bulldogs have not made the playoffs since 2017.

Dallas Spruce 

  • The Timberwolves are back in 4A for the first time since 2013. 

Kaufman 

  • After two years in 5A, Kaufman is back to 4A. 

Alice 

  • Alice dropped to 1-9 after three consecutive playoff seasons last year.

Corpus Christi Miller 

  • After three consecutive double-digit win seasons, Miller finished 4-7 in 2025.

Down to 3A (All from 4A DII to 3A DI unless otherwise noted)

Devine 

  • Devine is down to 3A after posting a winning season every year since 2018.

Sweeny 

  • Sweeny has not had a winning season since 2019.

Lorena 

  • Lorena won a state championship and posted double-digit win seasons in three of its last four years in Class 3A, but stumbled to a 5-15 record in two years as a Class 4A program.

Carrizo Springs 

  • Carrizo Springs made the playoffs in back-to-back years as a Class 4A program.

Caldwell 

  • Caldwell has not had a winning season since 2015.

Smithville 

  • After back-to-back 0-10 seasons, Smithville drops to 3A.

Cleveland Tarkington 

  • Cleveland Tarkington has had one winning season since 2001.

Sinton 

  • Sinton drops to 3A after back-to-back 13-1 campaigns.

Houston Wheatley (4A DI to 3A DI)

  • Wheatley drops all the way from 4A DI to 3A DI after making the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.

Wharton 

  • Wharton broke a five-year playoff drought last season.

Down to 2A (All from 3A DII to 2A DI)

Tulia 

  • Tulia has not made the playoffs since 2018.

Monte Alto 

  • Monte Alto has not won a game since 2019.

Anthony 

  • Anthony has had one winning season since 2007.

Dilley 

  • Dilley was on the outside looking in after a 4-6 season in a tough District 15-3A DII.

Taft 

  • Taft has made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons.

Brady 

  • Brady has made the playoffs every year since 2018.

Tornillo 

  • Tornillo has not played football since 2023.

Banquete 

  • Banquete is back in 2A for the first time since 2013.

Down to 1A (All from 2A DII, decision on whether or not to play six-man football pending)

Ralls 

  • Ralls will play six-man football for the first time in school history unless they opt up. 

Sterling City 

  • Sterling City played six-man football from 2008 to 2021.

Shamrock 

  • Shamrock’s four-year playoff streak was snapped with a 2-8 record. 

Iraan

  • Iraan has gone 17-6 in the last two years.

D’Hanis 

  • D’Hanis has suffered three consecutive losing seasons.
