Fort Bend Ridge Point defeated Bridgeland 31-3 in a statement, cross-town rivalry win last night, moving the Panthers to 3-0 heading into district play. Offensive tackle Avery Morcho anchors a top three-ranked offensive line unit in Texas and committed to Texas A&M this summer. I caught up with him to talk about why he chose the Aggies and his biggest area of development in his game.

Q: You’re 3-0 heading into district play. Talk about the momentum this gives you heading into district play.
Avery Morcho:
We really just want to stay level-headed and just take it a game and a week at a time. Coach LaFavers, he calls it “stacking bricks.” So, we just take everything step by step and not take anything for granted.

Q: Let’s talk about your stout offensive line. You’re at offensive tackle, and then there’s Jordan Burnett, who’s a TCU commit, and Hugh Smith, who’s an Arkansas commit. What’s the chemistry and dynamic like in the trenches?
Avery Morcho:
The offensive line is a unit. It’s five men equals one. So really, we just want take pride in playing nasty and physical together as a whole unit.

Q: What are you measuring at right now?
Avery Morcho:
Right now, I’m 6’6, 305 pounds.

Q: You're a Texas A&M commit. What was it about the Aggies that made you ultimately decide to make College Station your next home?
Avery Morcho:
I chose Texas A&M because of the atmosphere and the coaching. I feel like Coach Cushing, Coach Mackey, and Coach Wiggins could develop me into an amazing football player but an even better person and man.

Q: I caught your pancake block down here in the end zone earlier. Give me a little insight into some technical skills you’ve worked on in the offseason that you've improved on.
Avery Morcho:
Really, my technique, pad level, run blocking, and pass protection — but really, it’s my mentality. I just want to go dominate every play.
