The SMU Mustangs filled a need with the addition of former five-star running back Camar Wheaton on Tuesday.

The Garland Lakeview Centennial product was the third-ranked running back in the 2021 cycle and ended up signing with Alabama.

Wheaton redshirtted in 2021 at Alabama, meaning he still holds four years of eligibility when he arrives at SMU this summer.

The addition of Wheaton is additionally important because SMU lost Ulysses Bentley IV, the team's most explosive running back, to the transfer portal. Wheaton is a big-play running back who was also a track star in high school. He'll offer a nice change of pace to SMU running backs Tre Siggers and Tyler Lavine.
