Killeen ISD has named Salado head coach Alan Haire as the first ever head coach at the district’s fifth high schook, Chaparral High, which opens up in August 2022 and will immediately play varsity football as a 5A-Division II program in 2022.
Haire has 20 seasons of head coaching experience under his belt, including the last six seasons in his hometown of Salado. He holds a 132-92 overall record, with his best season coming in 2017 when he led Salado to a 12-2 mark and the Class 4A-Division II regional finals.
Haire, who made his head coaching debut at Perrin-Whitt back in 2001, then went to Lago Vista in 2002 and with his Slot-T offense helped turn the long-struggling Vikings into a strong program where he led LVHS to back-to-back ten-win seasons in 2010 and 2011 and then a regional semifinal appearance in 2012.
Coach Haire spent one season in 2015 as the athletic director in Stephenville ISD before taking over at Salado in 2016. In addition to the 12-2 mark in 2017, Salado posted an impressive 11-2 season in 2020.
“My family is excited about the new and exciting challenge of building a new program and traditions from the ground up at Chaparral High School," Haire said. "I’m thankful that Killeen ISD is giving me this opportunity."
