The Texas Bowl has been cancelled due to cases of COVID-19 and opt outs in the TCU football program.

The game, which was originally slated to feature former Southwest Conference foes TCU and Arkansas, was set for 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

"While we are disappointed in canceling this year's game, we look forward to hosting both the Texas Kickoff and Texas Bowl next season," Texas Bowl executive director David Fletcher said.

The Horned Frogs and Razorbacks have played just twice since Arkansas left the Southwest Conference, with each winning a game on the other's home turf. Arkansas leads the all-time series 44-24-2.

The cancellation means TCU's season is officially over at 6-4. The .600 winning percentage is the best mark since 2017. Arkansas finishes its first season under new coach Sam Pittman at 3-7 and on a four-game losing streak.

TCU also lost a nonconference game against SMU to open the season. However, the Horned Frogs scheduled a new matchup against Louisiana Tech and managed to make it through the Big 12 slate without any cancellations.
