Baylor redshirt freshman defensive tackle Cole Maxwell will miss the 2018 season with an ACL injury, a university official has confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

The news was first reported by ESPN Central Texas’ David Smoak.

Maxwell was an all-state defensive tackle for Allen High School after posting 87 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 10 sacks as a senior. Recruiting outlets rated him a 3-star recruit. Maxwell was part of Matt Rhule’s initial recruiting class at Baylor.

He redshirted the 2017 season to retain eligibility.

While Maxwell’s absence will be felt, defensive tackle is a position of strength for Baylor. The Bears return starters Ira Lewis and Tyrone Hunt at the position. Bravvion Roy and James Lynch should also eat up a significant amount of snaps.
